Mr. Ahmad Bin Ibrahim

1. Introduction

This report is one of the assignments for subject Ethnic Relations or Hubungan Etnik (UHM2022). This subject is designed to promote students unity and integration. This is achieved by involving students in field work and other dynamic team activities applying the basic concept and of ethnic relations in Malaysia.

Look East Policy as our research topic for this work activity. Here, some information about this topic, Look East Policy. In July 1981, Prime Minister Dato' Seri Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad became the Prime Minister of Malaysia. After six months in his office, he announced an initiative to learn from the experiences of Japan (and Korea) in the nation-building of Malaysia. He considered that the secret of Japanese success and its remarkable development lies in its labour ethics, morale, and management capability. He felt a programme enabling that young Malaysians to learn in Japan would contribute to the economic and social development of Malaysia. For this purpose, Malaysia decided to dispatch their students to Japan, to study not only academics and technical know-how but also to learn labour ethics and discipline of the Japanese people.

This initiative is called "Look East Policy." The programme consists of two parts. The first is to send Malaysian students to Japanese universities and institutes of technology. The second is to send trainees to Japanese industries and training institutes. These programmes are funded by the Government of Malaysia, and the Government of Japan supports these programmes by sending Japanese teachers to Malaysia and also by sharing a part of its costs.

One week after we finish sketching our comics (our title is colonial era) we need to do drama based on what we sketch. Still I'm too shy to do it but we done our best that day..

Few weeks later, using the same title (colonial era) we need to send one of our group member to be a panel for forum activity. That is our second last group task that we need to do before crossword puzzle (last group task).

CoMiCs

First of all I want to apologize for the slow posting in our blog. It has been almost 14 weeks in Ethnic Relations (ER) class and we had learned so many things in this class, not only about ethnic relations but also other things such as ways to boost self confident, make ourselves confident to talk in English, believe in ourselves to gives our opinion and many more.

There just 1 team activity we all have uploaded since we open this blog, but actually we had done more than that. Our first class activity is the word search that we’ve uploaded, second is dialog which we need to do a dialog based on the sketch given (sorry cant show our work because didn’t take picture of it) and third is comics which we need to sketch the comics together with the dialog. When engineering student draw comics… the result is like this (below)…

Because we do it at last minutes so I can say that I’m satisfied with our comics which we able to do it just in one whole night. Thanks to my group member who gave their best to finish this comics

PEN & UNITY

Pen is a tool that often we see. A simple thing yet a very useful tool for everyone like students, businessman and even a housewife. However this simple thing makes me realize about something that are very important to our society; unity.

As we know pen has a lot of types. Some are big, some small, some are very expensive until reach hundreds of ringgit and some just eighty cent. However when we holding any type of pen and idiotically ask others what was it, they will answer it is a pen. It’s the same thing when we go outside of our beloved country. When other person ask about whom we are, we will proudly answer that we are a Malaysian. No matter where we go, we will answer the same answer. Therefore if we are proudly said that we are Malaysian in other country, why don’t we do the same thing in our own country, by being proud to be a Malaysian in the land of Malaysia?

The second point is when we writing using a pen. When we write something on a paper, we use a little effort to make what we write visible. It is the same as unity. We need a little effort to unite a society. Open house, sports day and telematch in housing area are types of effort we can do in order to form a unity.

My third point is the feeling when we are writing. For example if we are a novelist and suddenly we have a lot of ideas, we will feel very happy and willingly write our ideas even it will take us 10-12 pages. However, imagine when we unwillingly doing our assignment, even though that assignment only required 5 sentences, the feeling to write is very hard. The same case when it came to unity. When we already have bad thoughts towards others, to unite with others will felt very hard. However if we try to have positive thinking and try to not have wrong conception to each other, we can easily communicate with each other and communication can create a bonding between us which lead to the unity.

That is all of my point on how a simple thing like pen can make me realize something very important like unity. Thank you for reading.

FOOD FIESTA!!!

We are now approaching the end of Syawal. However the feel of Eid-ul-Fitr are still inside most of us. As Eid-ul-Fitr are a celebration to celebrate the Muslim after fasting in the month of Ramadhan, a lot of foods were served during this festival. Different culture will served different food. Therefore I would like to share the food we ate in my hometown, Tawau Sabah. It’s not really special though but sharing is caring so let’s fly to Tawau and see what we might serve you.

This food name ‘Lappa’. I’m not really sure about the spelling but that is how my race Buton called it. Originally from South East Sulawesi, Indonesia, Lappa was made using ‘nasi pulut’ and cooked the same way as ‘ketupat’.

This one was name ‘Putu’. It was made using tapioca. It was actually quite similar with ‘Putu’ eaten by Bajau Semporna but different shape.

This is ‘Ambuyat’. It was made from starch or sago. Delicious depends on sauce use. We normally eat it with ‘kuah ikan’. Eaten mostly by Brunei people.

This is ‘Burasak’. Special food for Bugis people. It was made using rice and coconut milk.

Lastly, I would like to share my favorite fruit that I never found in Peninsula Malaysia, ‘Buah Tarap’. The shape was quite similar to ‘Buah Cempedak’ but the size are smaller, the cloves whiter and crowded. The taste is sweet.

Well, that is all for now. Happy eating everybody. ^_^

p/s : Please inform me if I gave wrong information. Thank you.
