FOOD FIESTA!!!

We are now approaching the end of Syawal. However the feel of Eid-ul-Fitr are still inside most of us. As Eid-ul-Fitr are a celebration to celebrate the Muslim after fasting in the month of Ramadhan, a lot of foods were served during this festival. Different culture will served different food. Therefore I would like to share the food we ate in my hometown, Tawau Sabah. It’s not really special though but sharing is caring so let’s fly to Tawau and see what we might serve you.

This food name ‘Lappa’. I’m not really sure about the spelling but that is how my race Buton called it. Originally from South East Sulawesi, Indonesia, Lappa was made using ‘nasi pulut’ and cooked the same way as ‘ketupat’.

This one was name ‘Putu’. It was made using tapioca. It was actually quite similar with ‘Putu’ eaten by Bajau Semporna but different shape.

This is ‘Ambuyat’. It was made from starch or sago. Delicious depends on sauce use. We normally eat it with ‘kuah ikan’. Eaten mostly by Brunei people.

This is ‘Burasak’. Special food for Bugis people. It was made using rice and coconut milk.

Lastly, I would like to share my favorite fruit that I never found in Peninsula Malaysia, ‘Buah Tarap’. The shape was quite similar to ‘Buah Cempedak’ but the size are smaller, the cloves whiter and crowded. The taste is sweet.

Cross word puzzle

When we were first told that we are going to do some cross word puzzle, me (Norlailah) and my partner (Nurul Syamimi) is pretty excited. However, once we got the paper we are so surprise that it didn't gave us any hint. So we just circle whatever word that we thought exist. It was very fun while doing this activity because everyone want to be the first couple manage to find all the word. Beside, we also found a lot of other word which make us laugh like ayam, payung, ikan masin and many more. We didn't manage to be the first group because there are some word we don't know;

Ethnocentrism
the ethnic who thought their culture and ethnic is much better than other ethnic.

Enculturation
Process by which a person learns the requirements of the culture by which he or she is surrounded, and acquires values and behaviours that are appropriate or necessary in that culture (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enculturation)

At first, i don't feel like doing it because i always thought that this kind of game is boring. But, after forcing myself and being forced by my partner, we were getting excited and trying our very best to solve it. My partner, Syakirah was getting more excited when the lecturer announce that the first group getting it done will get the photo taken. She was so eager to get the first place and contributed a lots of ideas to solve the puzzle (i don't know what is this game called, so i just named it). With so much talking and laughing together and also a little much effort, we lose the game but we both enjoy the game very much.

ASSIMILATION
The blending or fusing of minority groups into the dominant society.

PLURALISM
A social organization in which diversity of racial or religious or ethnic or cultural group is tolerated.

ACCOMMODATION
A dwelling or place of temporary residence.

PREJUDICE
A preconceived judgment toward a people or a person because of race, social class, gender, ethnicity, age, disability, political beliefs, religion, sexual orientation or other personal characteristics.

NATION
a group of people who share common history, culture, ethnic religion and language often possessing or seeking its own language.

DISCRIMINATION
A sociological term referring to the treatment taken toward or against a person of a certain group in consideration based solely on class or category.

STEREOTYPE
A commonly held public belief about specific social groups or types of individuals.

ENCULTURATION
The process by which a person learns the requirements of the culture by which he or she is surrounded and acquires values and behaviors that are appropriate or necessary in the culture.

SEGREGATION
The separation of different kinds of humans into racial groups in daily life.

ACCULTURATION
The exchange of cultural features that results when groups of individuals having different cultures come into continuous first hand contact; the original cultural patterns of either or both groups may be altered, but the groups remains distinct.

ETHNOCENTRISM
The tendency to believe that one's ethnics or cultural group is centrally important, and that all other groups are measured in relation to one's own.

We(sukma and kinah) are very excited when we do this game because this game challenge our mind.We also learn a new words that relates to our subject(Ethnic Relation).We work together to finish the task.During we do this game,the are some problems that we encountered.Most of the words are the new words that we do not know before this. So we must have more effort to finish it.So,it is very important to us to work in team.
